I was originally asked to build a website for this company, back in the autumn of 2009. As a busy investment company in the City of London, with a £1,000,000 turnover, you would imagine that there wouldn’t be any issues re payment!!

However, I’m now about to take them to the small claims court for the work I did on their website & having posted an £8,000 pre-tax loss for last year, it would appear that all is not rosy at Gracechurch; perhaps it’s not the sort of place a potential investor would want to put their money!!!

I started to build a new website for the company, to replace their outdated one and half way though they asked me to start on another project and then on another. As the original project progressed, it became harder and harder to get hold of the Managing Director. Eventually, I decided to bill them for the work done to date (just £300), even though I had still not finished the site to my satisfaction.

Since billing them, they have changed their FTP login, so that I can no longer access the site and have also removed my company credit from the bottom of the homepage.

Despite many promises, no money has been forthcoming & I’ve heard from other people, that they have a number of people chasing outstanding bills! I’ve now had to threaten legal action and it looks like I’ll have to take them to the small claims court.

I stopped getting any reply from the people involved in the second project too and it turns out that they had gone off on their own, after falling out with the same managing director; naturally, I didn’t get paid for the work done on that site either!

It seems that THE way to do business in the City is STILL to screw people over for a quick buck,  but then isn’t that what the City of London has always been about?! No wonder the economy is in such a mess when we allow sharks like this to do whatever they like! The next time the bankers threaten to leave if we don’t let them have their millions in bonuses, then we should tell them to GO & as quickly as possible!

But, regardless of your viewpoint re City sharks, maybe the a pre-tax loss of £8,000 from £1,000,000 turnover, are the figures you really need to look at, if you have money to invest!!!
