    Twitter Marketing Errors that You Can’t Afford to Make

    Filed under: Uncategorized;

    Social media is dominating the Internet and Twitter is leading the pack along with Facebook. You can gain many prospects from Twitter, but you also have to know enough not to make the kind of mistakes made by many new marketers.

    People use Twitter to connect with others, and if you just go in there and send out your marketing messages without forming a relationship with your followers, then you’ll not get far at all. You have to first focus on creating a strong bond with your followers before you even think about sending out promotional tweets. It’s important to win their trust before anything else so that in the future when you start to market to them, they won’t even feel that you are. Twitter marketing isn’t like other forms of marketing in that it’s not really marketing at all. It’s merely a tool to get to know your target audience. You want to cultivate your followers so that you can use them for promotional purposes much later on. What you’re trying to do is help them with whatever problems they may be having, and that help is going to come from your product. You are basically recommending the products to your prospects instead of becoming a salesperson. You cannot make it on Twitter unless you understand this. Ignoring those rules can sometimes make your business go bust. Put yourself in your customer’s shoes and think how you would react if a stranger approached you and started telling you about a product. You need to first cultivate that relationship so that you can build trust and then you can offer the products.

    Another common blunder that’s often committed by marketers on Twitter is to try to remain as good as possible so that nobody gets offended or turned off, which may lead them to drop off your contact list. It’s almost a disease to seems to strike every new Twitter user. This is where you think that sending out too many Tweets is distracting or that your followers will become annoyed with you. But actually, it’s other way around. A person who only sends out a couple tweets every now and then will never get noticed because there are so many tweets to compete with daily. Twitter is used this way. When you think of how many followers you have, you also have to consider your followers’ followers. If you only send out one tweet a day, your tweet is just going to get buried in a second. So use your common sense here and try to tweet them often, if not every 5 minutes.

    Coming across like a corporate executive is another typical mistake made by Twitter marketers. They erroneously believe that their audience will respect them and look up to them this way. Twitter members, however, don’t want to talk to corporate types, but to down to earth people they can relate to. It also gives you more flexibility when you aren’t simply representing one product or company. Your followers don’t use Twitter to interact with a company, so you would only lose people this way.

    So Twitter has the ability to really get your business off the ground, but only if you act the right way and you stay away from the blunders you’re now aware of.
